A historic family legacy that boasts nine generations of passionate winemakers entirely focused on delighting their patrons by offering exceptional wines.
De Waal's mature vineyards offer grapes that produce deep, rich wines fondly recalled for their consistent quality and enjoyment. The wines combine elegant Old World finesse and abundant New World fruit. De Waal's value-for-money proposition, the Young Vines range, promotes everyday enjoyment that far exceeds other cellars' concept of quality wine.
Uiterwyk Estate (1682), situated in the cool Stellenbosch Hills, has been a De Waal family concern since 1864. This modest family has consistently been producing award winning Pinotage and in 1998 won Wine Magazine's Champion Pinotage award with their single vineyard wine, the Top-of-the-Hill Pinotage, made from more than 60-year-old vines. The Top-of-the-Hill Pinotage has also been rated by Decanter Magazine as one South Africa’s 10 best wines. This is not surprising if you take into consideration that CT de Waal produced the very first experimental barrel of this wine in 1941 from this unique South African variety.
